Sir Winston Churchill is one of the greatest leaders that the world has ever seen. His role as a brave leader in world war two, a smart politician, an eloquent speaker, a scholar of history, a great author and artist makes him admirable (Holmes, 2005). Few individuals posses the character and accomplishments that can be attributed to this hero who is admired by many across diverse parts of the world  and that is why I am writing about him.

Sir Winston Churchill was a member of the noble family of the Duke of Marlborough. Churchill's father was a politician who acted as the exchequer while his mother was an American(Holmes, 2005).Churchill began his military career in 1893.He served the military in Cuba, where he wrote on the war between the rebels and Spain. He was also involved in wars in India, Sudan and South Africa where in addition to fighting gallantly, he also penned literary works based on his experiences (Lewis, 1957). The First World War was not favorable to him as he was beaten in Gallipoli.

However, this defeat did not deter him and he has been described as brave in his endeavors which followed. Churchill's political life began in 1900 when he first won a seat and was associated with the Conservative party. While in this party, he was vocal in opposing the vast expenditures on the military and the extension of tariffs. He later joined the liberal Party where he championed for trade to be free. He represented the constituencies of Oldham, Manchester west and Dundee in as a politician. He was in various positions of cabinet in before becoming the prime minister (Blake & Louis,1992).

Churchill's leadership during the Second World War, his inspiring speeches and field activity was instrumental for the victory by the allies. He cemented a warm relationship with the United States and initiated reconciliation with Russia in a bid to bolstered bilateral ties. His works of art are admired and are found in the world's best's museums. His numerous books, most of which proclaim human virtues are revered and to this end he won a Nobel price (Blake & Louis, 1992). Indeed, this great leader of the past continues to be cited and emulated by both the present and future generations.
