Considering a laptop, this is a computer which has been designed to be portable. Normally this includes the making of sacrifices especially in utility and performance. Apparently laptops are normally designed for those people who travel a lot and need a computer with them.
A desktop is meant to be stationary. This is the reason as to why it costs a lower price and rather better options that create room for upgrading. Desktops normally are meant for permanent workstations and they tend to have more power and also storage capacity as compared to laptops.
An imperative feature with regard to laptop computers is the battery system. It is notable that the feature lacks in desktop computers. Normally, the battery tends to require conservation of power. These are considerations that appear nowhere in desktop computers. Another difference is that laptop computers normally have relatively smaller keyboards which do not have a numeric keypad and sometimes they tend to have a less convenient layout when compared to a desktop keyboard. It is easy for one to install accessories like a back-up drive, a printer and a second monitor on a desktop computer.
A desktop computer is more spacious when compared to a laptop. This means it can comfortable accommodate a bigger memory and to hold more RAM. The space in a desktop computer is the factor that allows its users to go for almost unlimited accessories and other options that a laptop computer may not be able to accommodate due to lack of space. Some features like top speed processor, the ultimate art state of the art sound and also the graphics cards, various ports meant external linking and sufficient storage space for all programs, video and music clips that users may require.
Laptop computers normally have all components contained in a small device: the keyboard, the CPU, the screen, any hard drive contained, mouse-type device and may be any optical drive like the case with DVD’s. Normally desktops, monitor, the keyboard and mouse normally separate the various components. A laptop is a compact, or rather self contained unit that has been designed operates on battery power. On the other hand, a desktop computer has to stay while plugged in. One of the distinct characteristics of a laptop is that it is a compact machine, appears to be a self-contained unit that has been designed to operate on power from a battery. A desktop computer is always plugged in to an external power supplier (Worcester, 2011).
