Near nudity in the male is a social activity that is deviant. Culturally males’ near-nudity is a negative deviant, which is less encouraged in the society. Near- nudity in the male is under the deviant category because of the nudity aspect. Most males wear clothes which cover the whole of their bodies and going against this norm becomes deviant. Near nudity in males usually happens when they wear their trousers below the waistline showing off the inner wear. This practice is acceptable for the celebrities, as they seem to get away with it, unlike the other common people. As for males, having your trousers below the waistline is a symbol of a person with no values that is trying to ape the celebrities’ ideologies. In addition to celebrities, the only other field in which near nudity in the male is acceptable is sports
As much as near nudity is deviant, it is still practiced among the celebrities and in sports’ field because of its origin. Near- nudity in celebrities comes as an indication of the level of fame of the person, and for this reason, most people permit the deviant behavior in the field. In the sports world, near nudity in men helps them to be comfortable in their games. It also helps foster social change by making most people open- minded about the dress code for men (Atkinson & Young, 2008). Regular appearance of nearly nude men in the society will help diminish the norm of the deviant being a negative aspect. Thus, if near nudity deviance persists in the society, people will start accepting the deviant behavior and look for positive aspects of the practice. The society will slowly accept the norm, and in the long run, it will be a normal practice to see near nude men. Symbolic interactions best suit the above discussion, as the only acceptable male nudity deviant is one symbolizing a given matter.
