Check Out Our How Government can Reduce Waste and Inefficiency Essay

Introduction

Reducing waste and inefficiency in government, and getting out of its own way, while providing better service for the customer, could only be realized if the authority streamlines its operations. This research presents the existing literature about the topic, discusses training and provides recommendation to the government. It also discusses the implication of the idea, outlines the models of reducing waste and inefficiency and expected problems. In this regard, sewage or filtered wet domestic waste, for instance, fuel spill pollution from the construction sites are as a result of inefficiencies in waste management and it destroys the beautiful scenery of the area. Probably, this might eventually lead to the decline of its ability to attract higher market prices due to the lands decreased economic value. Such serious economic issues have prompted various environmental resource agencies and the government to look for viable solutions regarding the protection of environment.

Researches about the Topic

There are a number of researchers, which have been written about this topic. For instance, Wineburg (2007) acknowledges the issue of inefficiency as the main issue facing the government and organization (24). The government might take several initiatives to reduce wastes and inefficiency, the assistance it offers the people have made them gain useful ways of handling multifaceted cases of inefficiency in the workplace, not forgetting that analytical approaches improved tremendously (Markovitz, 2011). In essence, the government has transformed the theoretical knowledge of the people into a useful form that they can tap in the production system. Furthermore, the government has prepared the people to work for other firms as full and competent workers, who can greatly improve efficiency (Wineburg, 2007).

In essence, improving efficiency is a unique initiative that would distinguish the government from others in a given region and enhance its performance. Moreover, the positive contribution that the government makes in the development of the country, such as reduction of unemployment rate, will reduce waste, inefficiency and improve the lives of people.

Training

In terms of training, whether a country is developing or developed, the government will invest in training the workers to increase their ability and performance. In fact, the government will spend extra money on training employees and other graduates on specific job skills to make sure that it reduces wastes of resources and other forms of inefficiency (Wineburg, 2007). Therefore, it would only recruit experienced people for the public job vacancies to improve overall efficiency and minimize wastes. Apparently, it leaves the fresh graduates with no option, but to look for internship that is hardly available vacancies in the public service (Markovitz, 2011).

Alternatively, it will take advantage of the opportunity to offer more students favorable working possibilities and conditions, and help the country reduce and, subsequently, eliminate the problem of waste and inefficiency in public service (Markovitz, 2011). Indeed, before other small enterprises realize the potential of equipping their employees with skills, the government should take the lead to gain a competitive edge in the region. Finally, the administration will formulate the policies that are expected to facilitate the involvement of the employees and other fresh graduates in internships and subsequent employment. Such actions will significantly improve their efficiency and help them reduce waste. Since the people are innovative, giving them proper skills through training at an early stage of employment would improve their creativity and enhance service delivery in their respective employment positions (Wineburg, 2007).

Recommendations for the Government

Based on the research carried out, various recommendations are directed for the government to help the administrative team make good decision that can help the country climb the development ladder steadily. The first suggestion is that the government should increase its publicity and inform the customers well about development initiatives, which seems to be lacking. This could be achieved through the organized talk shows, frequent publications in the media and initiating clubs that might be easily joined with a lot of benefits packages to draw the customers’ attention.

Another suggestion for the government is to widen its scope in operation so that they reach as many clients as possible. This could help expand the ways, in which the government reaches out to its people, thus eventually leads to the improved service delivery. This could be done by opening various government agencies within the country to reduce challenges faced by its people, who are forced to move long distances in an attempt to get basic administrative services. Although this may be challenging, the government could think of decentralizing its administrative services to help expand the service delivery. Furthermore, it is recommended that the government should improve its image so as to attract the public. This could be achieved by creating unique aspects in governmental services and products to make them distinguishable from other competitors and serve the interests of people. These would involve improving its image if the need is to help it operate above the expectation of the public.

In order to attract the people’s attention, it is very important for the government to identify itself to the groups since their members are within a small age gap. This can be achieved through identifying the people’s likes and infusing it with the country’s ideology. Lastly, the research wishes to suggest that the government takes precautionary measures against sudden fluctuations in the economy. The results revealed lack of consistency in the attitude the variations exhibited call for super-insulating measures.

Implication of the Idea

Some of the implications of the idea and business practice or research include the following. First, there would be environmental concerns, which stipulate that the consumers expect the retailers to be able to avail products, which are friendlier to the environment than before (Wineburg, 2007). For example, the vehicles should have minimal or no impacts regarding the emission of dangerous gases and wastes to the environment. This would increase their usability, reliability and sustainability, thus conserving the environment. Therefore, it implies that the government would stipulate policies aimed at ensuring that the consumers are protected from the impacts of wastes and inefficiencies of the workforce (Markovitz, 2011). The second implication is that the government will have to pay attention to the consumer environment by making sure that there is significant reduction in water pollution, wastes dumping and carbon emission. In addition, the government will regulate companies manufacturing and selling vehicles, which can survive in all terrain and provide luxury to the users.

Models of Reducing Waste and Inefficiency

Some of the models of reducing wastes include Lean and WEDGES methodologies. The Lean model emphasizes on the maximization of resource use and minimizing wastes (Mercer, 2012). In this case, the government will be obliged to formulate policies, which would increase the prudent use of resources by reducing the cost of inputs, space required for production, cost, effort and energy used in production (Mercer, 2012). Definitely, this will increase waste management and improve the production efficiency.

On the other hand, the WEDGES model is used to describe the government’s ability to formulate policies, which reduce the people’s expenditure. This encourages saving and reduces cases of inefficiency among the workforce (Mercer, 2012). Other than the settlements, the human activities, such as dumping of wastes, clearing the vegetation for the expansion of settlements and creating space for industries, also resulted in the destruction of the ecosystem around the residential places, thus necessitating governmental involvement in reducing the impacts (Mercer, 2012). It could affect the peace of many families, a situation that increases the government’s concern about the welfare of all stakeholders.

Under this model, the government’s roles in managing the country’s affairs could not be peaceful due to the increase in the destruction of the ecosystem degrade the environment through wastes and other forms of inefficiencies, which, in turn, made it impossible to transform the urban centers (Mercer, 2012). In ensuring that the internal and external environments of the house remain safe, the government needed to instruct the responsible persons to ensure that any waste, whether plastic or non-plastic, did not end up into the drainage system. The reason for this position was that the authority understood the consequences of blocking the systems from operating, thus insisted on their maintenance (Mercer, 2012). Indeed, such blockages could lead to spillovers, thereby draining the wastes to the rivers, which could be a health hazard to the entire country.

Anticipated Problems

Notably, the real problem is that the government would not implement a system that would do what it takes to reduce waste and inefficiency. The reason for this argument is that there might be lack of political will from the leaders (Mercer, 2012). In this regard, certain leaders might have interest in such loopholes so that they reap from the problems caused by wastes and inefficiencies of the workforce.

The other problem is the issue that we have a paper reduction acts in place, yet we seem to use more and more paper each year. Therefore, with technology, it is possible to reduce the paper usage while still maintaining the criteria of the requirements. Although the use of technology will help to reduce the amount of waste and inefficiency in service delivery, such materials could also pose fresh threat to the environment once the used ones are damped in the environment (Markovitz, 2011).

In summary, the government has a role of reducing waste and inefficiency in the provision of services for the common good of people. In addition, scholars argue that inefficiency as the main issue facing the government functions, and must be dealt with promptly. This means that despite the anticipated challenges, the government should invest in training the workers to increase their ability and performance.
