In the speech presented by Palin in the convention, Palin spoke of her family and her achievements when she was the governor of Alaska. The issue of controversy especially her mock for the Obama government did not escape the scene; she made it look like the role Obama played as a community organizer in Chicago was not an achievement. In the speech too, Sara Palin spoke of the heroism role that john McCain had played in fighting for the American citizens. The emphasis she laid on McCain "fighting for" made the crowd go ecstatic and as a matter of fact, these were the ethos of the speech.
Biden's speech concentrated on the reinforcement of the message that would reassure that the elite voted for Obama. He stressed no the issue that Obama was a Harvard educated lawyer and this should not present him as the elitist that is out of bound demonstrated by the republicans. In the speech Biden, says that despite him being friends with McCain, he considered his policies the same to those of bush and to him this could not be termed to as wrong. It is only Obama who could embody the "great American story".
From the two speeches it is clear the Sara Palin's speech held more water than that of Biden. In her introduction speech, we are shown how Palin concentrates on telling the people about her upbringing in an American rural setting which she tries to woo the people using. This creates the pathos of the speech. In addition, she tries to tell the people that she does not only comprehend the people's issues and encounters but she has first hand experience about them. This is what Americans especially those of rural America would like to hear, one of their own taking the office. The speech also illustrates on her many days spent as a mayor and the tasks she had tackled (logos). This means that she has lived in America for long and she knows and she has experienced the American life more than Obama could boost of.
